I’ll just come out and say it. Fallout February was a spur of the moment idea and was not executed by yours truly as well as it could have been. It had very little fanfare around it and not much thought put into it either so what could possibly go wrong? We’ll talk about that in a bit.
First, let’s celebrate this year’s contributions!
To kick things off, we have a couple of Fallout figures from Modiphius. These have a New Vegas flavor which is now a classic game in the series to me anyway.

34th Tribe of the Vault did an excellent job painting up grim and gritty versions of these companions. If you don’t know Fallout well, these guys will accompany you and help you in any fights you get in. The blue Super Mutant, Lily has some fantastic weathering on her blade, in particular. The weapon actually comes from an airplane in the Fallout universe so its quite an imposing thing to swing around.
If you like Fallout at all, 34th Tribe of the Vault is a great place to go for content. Not only does he have a strong Fallout collection, but he does some really creative and interesting things with custom rules and campaigns. It is really ambitious and puts my fairly limited game experience to shame!
Next up, we have a contribution from one of the most prolific painters I know. Azazel painted up some barrels that would look at home in any Fallout video game.

The weathering is spot-on and Azazel is well on his way towards recreating any industrial setting or even a junkyard with these in his collection.

That wasn’t the only terrain he got done either. Azazel did a smashing job on these picket fences from Mantic. The weathering looks fantastic as does the wood grain. Every house can use a fence so this is another versatile piece of terrain to have in your collection.
If you like seeing a wide variety of miniatures and terrain painted to a high standard, then do give Azazel’s Bit Box a visit. His work is always inspiring and you never know what he’ll tackle next which is part of the fun for me anyway.
If you’ve been following along over the course of February, you probably already know that I tried to contribute to the challenge that I was running and failed unfortunately. I did work on something Fallout most of the month but I failed to complete it in time as we’re now a week into March. Here is a quick look at where it stood near the end of the month, in case you’re curious.

So obviously I learned a tough lesson that you need to pick painting projects that can actually get done in a month’s to make this whole thing work. In fairness, I did think I could get it done but I was obviously wrong.
Assuming there is interest, I’d love to run another Fallout February in 2026. My plan is to promote it ahead of time a bit more to give people time to line up projects as they see fit. Also, I think I’ll open it up to anything post-apocalypse to try and encourage even more participation too. The bigger the celebration is of our hobby and the wargaming blogging community, the better!
A big thank you to 34th Tribe of the Vault and Azazel for their contributions this year. You saved the challenge from basically being egg on my face so I appreciate it!
Excellent work from everyone involved here 👍 the house is looking great, that’ll look right at home on the tabletop. Also, I never realised that Lily’s weapon was a plane wing! Learn something new every day ☢️

I’m getting closer and closer on the house thankfully. Its definitely a time commitment working on bigger pieces of terrain. I actually learned that from 34th Tribe myself on Lily’s weapon. It is pretty mind-blowing once you realize what the weapon is.
Also, next year consider yourself invited to participate, if at all interested. I did a lousy job of promoting the challenge and reaching out to people who’s work fits it and yours obviously does. So if you’re painting Fallout next February, we’d love to have you participate!

I do like that about the Fallout universe, the repurposing of other items, like the way the Nightkin use stop signs for armour (and plane wings as swords haha)
As for the event I’d absolutely love to join in next time around, count me in! 👍

All very nice stuff, Jeff! 🙂 I’m usually lucky in that I’ve probably always got some bits prepared beforehand that can be dropped into a challenge! I failed my personal slant on the Fallout February challenge miserably, failing to fall out of bed even once! 😉

That is very smart, John. I don’t always think ahead when it comes to projects like I should. I will say that it would have been a lot of fun to write about how many times you’ve fallen out of bed in February, if I had the chance haha!

Well done to all who took part, and for all they managed to achieve, completed or not.

Cheers, Dave! With the looser entry restrictions next year, you’re someone I hope might join in on the fun but we’ll have to wait 11 more months to find that out, I suppose 🙂

I’ll certainly do my best to take part, even if I have to make something to join in ! LOL

I didn’t realize that this was a thing that other people were doing. Probably because that one box of fallout I have still isn’t opened. 😀
nice job everyone!

That’s because of my own sub-par promoting skills. Next year I’ll try to be a bit clearer and give people more warning so they can join in, if they want. The biggest surprise is that you have a box of Fallout minis in your collection. I’m curious as to how that came about!

Awesome post! I’ll admit my contribution was a late one as I’m pretty much all over the place in the real world haha. Azazel and your works are equally fantastic works, scenery and terrain really helps the immersion of the Fallout enviroment on the tabletop. 🙂
You could try and plan an apocalypse themed post in November, the month where the great war started in 2077 for Fallout? You could maybe extend it to include artworks or homemade Fallout props, which I hear is a big community. It’s a bit far ahead, but it’ll give you some time to plan ahead.
I’d very much like to see Fallout February return next year. 😀

No worries at all! I’m glad you contributed and saved me some embarrassment 🙂
Those are both great ideas. I’ve had a person or two that make props stop by this website which is really cool. There will definitely be Fallout February next month and I’ll plan out what I’m going to work on a bit better too so its more impactful hopefully 🙂
