Well, its been a pretty bleak week here in the US for a big reason you almost definitely already know. I haven’t been immune from feeling things like malaise, depression, and even nihilism, though I’ve talked to other people that are more despondent than me. I won’t yammer on about it too much other than to say that I think voters will regret the choice they’ve made. Its a real Faustian bargain and we’re all going to suffer as a result, unless you’re a billionaire, of course. More importantly for the purposes of this blog and all of us hobbyists, I think escaping from reality is probably going to be even more useful and important than before if that is even possible.
And with the hobby in mind, let’s talk about my painting progress for the week. First up, I have a very modest clue marker from Hellboy that has been sitting on my hobby desk literally gathering dust for way too long. Its not super well-painted on my end but I’m relieved to finally have it done.
I also managed to knock out the last two witches which went pretty smoothly. While I never grew to like their faces or hair, I think they look fairly nice all things considered. I enjoyed experimenting with different colors on these too. I definitely got to use a few paints and washes that rarely get used.
Since all five witches are done. That means we can see a group shot of them, now. As weird as it is to say, they don’t look half bad!
Last but certainly not least, friend of the site, Bret, challenged me (!) to try and make the wallpaper look more weathered on the Fallout terrain I’ve very slowly been working on. I was working on another small piece this week and decided to do just as he requested. To be honest, my first attempt was not good. I got some feedback from a friend and tried again. I think I got a lot closer and now it looks as though the wallpaper’s been damaged and the drywall is peeking through. Of course, I’d love to hear your thoughts on it and anything you think might be improved on this as I’m getting closer and closer to starting to assemble the house finally.
And finally, I got a chance to play the new card game I teased last week and so I thought I’d chat briefly about it. I bought Sentinels of the Multiverse: Definitive Edition which is probably an unsurprising move from someone who enjoys comic books. Its a superhero-themed card game that’s been around for quite some time and the Definitive Edition is like a 2.0 version where they rebalanced the game and tried to address some of its weak points. Sentinels is a somewhat unusual card game in that you only play with preconstructed decks. The vast majority of card games are like miniature wargames in that you have to build your own deck or army to play the game but not here. Personally, I like deck building but a lack of deckbuilding opportunities didn’t put me off from trying Sentinels either. One of the big reasons I decided to give it a shot is that it was cheap to try at $30 but also, the game is not campaign based so every game is a one-off. That is much easier for me because I play video games alongside tabletop gaming and I had trouble balancing Arkham Horror’s campaigns with everything else I like to do in my free-time.
I’ve only played one game of Sentinels so far but I certainly enjoyed it. The game consists of 3-5 superheroes taking on a villain. That is actually what has kept me from every trying the game. I’ve played both sides in a card game before but three felt like a lot and truthfully, it kind of is. Its not hard to make mistakes while playing but I figure as long as I have playing the game, who cares? There’s a lot more to the game to try out so I’ll be playing it more as I get time and I wouldn’t be surprised if I report back in a couple of weeks with more thoughts.
Finally, there will almost definitely not be an update next weekend so you’ll get a break from me for a little bit. I will do my best to make a triumphant return as Thanksgiving approaches.

Nice to see the full collection of witches! I’m repeating myself but they really all do look nice and different even though they’re all the same model. Nice job on the wallpaper too, looks nice and grimy.
I understand what you mean about the elections, even from Australia people were following, I was at the office when the result was announced and pretty much all my colleagues had a bowser tab open with the news coming in. The US elections have a worldwide impact so everyone is apprehensive of what might happen next.

Many people voted as if the rest of the world doesn’t exist and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re reminded that it does. Its not a very bold prediction to say that Trump will mess up something big during his second turn, if not multiple things too. I do wish I could have watched the results in Australia as I bet they were in the middle of the day for you. They’re mostly in the middle of the night here which made it hard to sleep as you can probably imagine.

The objective piece looks great, and the coven looks very effective even with the shallow detail in the face and hair, I have a few thoughts on the wallpaper, with a very fine pencil, draw on the seam lines from each roll, doesn’t need to be heavy just give the idea it is multiple sheets. Also some staining would add to the paper effect, as this a ruined building and exposed to the elements, it could be water damage, sun damage, or even mould growing.
As for the election, it doesn’t matter who gets elected in any country, they only have one persons interest at heart, their own and lining their own pockets !

Thank you for the kind words and suggestions! I will do some investigation for a photo reference or two and see what I can come up with. I think the idea of wallpaper lines could work well if I can pull it off.
Sadly, you’re right on politics. The rich keep getting richer no matter who is in charge. Its just that one side is very naked in their ambition and that is a pretty scary sight all around!

Challenge? Suggest? Hint? First mistake is listening to me. Fortunately there wasn’t a second mistake, it looks great. If you could do the fine lines as “challenged” by Dave I think it would add to it.
The variety of colors on the coven work very well together.

Challenged sounded dramatic so that’s what I went with! The fine lines is something I still need to look into and play around with. I agree that it would really take it over the top though it has to be done just right or it won’t look good.
Unfortunately, US politics are going to be a lump of coal that we keep getting as a gift over the next four years, I’m afraid 😦 Especially based on the rogue’s gallery selected for cabinet positions…

It’s a chorus line of witches! They look cool, and I think that your worries about them looking like Power Rangers were safely avoided.
We’ve played a bit of Sentinels of the Multiverse, and I liked it a lot. I’m a fan in general of cooperative games and this one did have a nice feel of teaming up with your friends against a big baddy. I guess it never occured to me that one might also play it solo so I’m glad it worked out for you.

Cheers, mate! I’m glad to hear you like Sentinels too. I like the coop feel too and how thematic the game is. Since the hero decks are fairly straightforward, its not too hard to play them solo. Though having said that, I haven’t played with the more complicated ones yet so we’ll see how I get on with those.
