Looney Tunes – Rabbit

  1. Excellent work on the rabbit Jeff, some great fur work, with all the little brush strokes, shall be interesting to see what it is for.

Nice to see some progress on the diorama, I think you have room for a street between the two groups, but will want some rubble across the area as well to tie the whole scene together, and some damaged buildings, as big monsters are renowned for damaging scenery ! LOL

The format for 2000 ad and the Megazine, is what we have been used to for many years in the UK, as that’s how most of our comics worked, multiple stories at different times in their stories, which I can understand being frustrating with how the US comics normally work.

A little bit of a help for you is Judge Rico, is Dredd’s brother, who Dredd judged when he turned to crime, so jumping in could be very hard, the collection story was probably a good idea, to be able to read a whole story in one, and getting it online will help on the price.

Shall be interested to read what you are currently reading next week.

    1. Cheers, Dave! I was lucky I had a very fine brush with few bristles left as it made the bunny easier to paint.

I was thinking a road across the battlefield is a good idea too. That will give me some space to branch out and do some other cool things as well. I keep forgetting to actually plan for the damaged buildings and your comment has reminded me that I need to start doing that. I saw someone selling some cheap buildings that might be slightly imperfect on eBay and those could be a great solution to this.

It is all starting to feel a bit like the Revolutionary War all over again, Dave. Brits are doing things in the wrong way and are asking to be sorted out by the colonists haha! In all seriousness, I commend British readers’ patience as it is not easy to keep up with stuff in this format! You certainly can’t do what I do which is read the comics as they come out and then recycle them!

I would have never guessed that Judge Rico is Dredd’s brother. In this story, Rico looked a lot like Dredd to me anyway so that is good know. I will definitely stick to collected stories from here on out. We’ll see how I get on with that as I do believe that I will still enjoy Dredd when I find the right way of reading it.

  2. That is quite the tease you’ve left at the end, there 🤣 Glad to hear the Dredd reading will continue, though I totally get how confusing it can be. Years ago I picked up a kind of omnibus that collected a bunch of stories, though it collected them in order, so you could get the full picture. Kind of like a bunch of megazines but in the right order? Anyway, thought I’d mention it in case you were interested in the physical media as being a possibility!

That wabbit looks top notch! But the way you posed him with the nazi fighter! Oh my 🫣 Seriously, such good work. I’m very intrigued by what he’s going to be a part of…

    1. It sounds like it got your attention anyway! 😀 I will see if I can find anything like that digitally. There are quite a few collections aimed newer readers so I’ll see if I can’t figure out which one might be good for me. I’m glad you mentioned this as I think its the direction I should move in.

Thanks for the kind words on Bugs Bunny! With any luck all shall be revealed sooner than later. Truthfully, I’m looking forward to that myself.

  3. I reckon that’s the Rabbit of Caerbannog. That nazi doesn’t know what’s about to hit him!

Interesting to hear you’re exploring Dread, I like a bit of Judge Dread myself. Have you encountered Sláine? That’s another 2000AD – as it happens I have some Sláine miniatures that should show up on the blog soon(ish). I know what you mean about that format of comics making it hard to get into them though, as Dave says that’s the format we’re used to here and it’s put me off a lot of things. Just tell the story properly please, without making it a treasure hunt.

    1. I had to look that one up, mate, because I live under a rock but now that I have some idea of what you’re talking about, I’d have to agree 🙂

I haven’t gotten to any Slaine yet though I do know what he looks like, mostly because Warlord made that game based on him! I’m certainly open to learning more about him as all of 2000 AD is new to me. I’m curious to see what you have up your sleeve, Slaine wise! I’m glad to hear it isn’t just Americans who find it puzzling. Its almost as if they don’t want people to get into Dredd and 2000 AD!

  4. Really like that Rabbit (I may be biased), very cool paint job with a great use of texture. Neat to see the layout you’re playing with for the diorama, it’s a lot bigger than I expected and will make for a really impressive piece when you’re done.

I’ve always stayed away from comic magazines, If I sit down to read something I want to make sure I get a full story (even if it’s just a volume in a broader story). I find it hard to engage with a few pages at a time. I also want to read some more Dredd at some stage, it’s such an inspiration for a lot of the games I enjoy and I like to understand the influences behind my favourite things. So far though the only 2000 AD I’ve read is the really cool Slaine: the Horned God, and a collection of Strontium Dog stories.

    1. Thanks, Nic and I didn’t think of the connection to your website. I think that is the first rabbit I’ve ever painted but I wouldn’t mind more in the future!

My goal for the diorama is to really show a city and a sense of scale in the scene. I think its getting there, though I admit there’s stuff like streets and vehicles that are still missing.

I totally understand that. I now try to read the monthly issues when a complete story arc is done (so when there are five or six issues to be read generally) but 2000 AD and Dredd is waaaay harder to do that with because of how they break them up into small pieces within the magazines. I think sticking to the collected editions will help as I enjoyed that volume so much more than the expensive, megazine. I’ll report back once I’ve read some more Dredd/2000 AD and hopefully can confirm that switching to collected editions solved this problem for me.

      1. They have some great big volumes collecting all the old stories in their shop which seem like a good way to catch up on the classic stories, the modern ones seem to be in standalone volumes. Definitely read Slaine the horned god if you’re at all interested in Celtic myth/fantasy in general. The artwork is amazing.

      2. I was researching on the digital side and I think I found exactly what you’re talking about. There are something like 50 of the Case Files! I think I might go that way because they’re $10 a piece which is not too bad compared to what I paid. Generally speaking, I’m on the side of the Romans and not the Barbarians but in this case, I can make an exception! 😉 I will definitely look into Slaine at some point in the future as you’re not the first person I know to praise it.

  5. N*zis, killer rabbits, monsterpocalypse diorama,Judge Dread and a teaser. Could you fit anything else in this blog?

I like the amount of detail that you put into what essentially is a game piece.

    1. The short but honest answer is: not really! I spent longer than usual writing this as a result of the varied subject matter, not that I mind doing so.

Perhaps the rabbit is not a game piece! Though I don’t tend to skimp on those much either to be fair.

  6. That rabbit looks excellent, and I can’t wait to see where it ends up being part of your master plans. Though despite you saying it’s a little bunny, it’s actually hilariously big compared to that Nazi in the photo!
