If you’ve been visiting my blog much over the last month or two, you know I’ve been whinging about painting my Hunter Orc on Fell Wargs. They are very detailed miniatures and take more time than you expect to paint. While I enjoy painting them more than I let on, they are certainly a real commitment of time and effort. With that said, I’ve painted up a few that I’m really proud of and my latest fits into that category.
I have started to run out of good colors to paint the orc skin because these guys have so many shades of brown already needed to paint them. With that said, I think this guy looks pretty snappy and so does his warg! Best of all, I think he was the quickest one to paint yet which was really nice. He is my sixth and final one in the box so it felt great to remove that box from my hobby table. This also means that I’m halfway towards the 12 needed to play any scenarios that they appear in. As a result, I hope you don’t mind a quick victory lap photo of them all together with some terrain scattered about!
The other nice thing that happened this week is I won an auction on eBay for There and Back Again which made its away across the pond and arrived finally. My original goal was to play through the There and Back Again campaign because it was the newest book out when I started with Hobbit SBG and all of the models were available. It feels like more LOTR models are available now so it is funny how things change in a couple of year’s time. Regardless, it is nice to have this book even if I think my priorities have shifted. The production quality is amazing and the scenarios look like fun even if they almost all require a ton of hobbying to accomplish. For this reason, I may end up cherry picking the ones I really want to play in the coming years (Barrels out of Bond for instance) as I think it would take five to ten years for me to play most of these and truthfully, I’d rather play LOTR scenarios and Scouring of the Shire first before I did that. Regardless of what happens, its awesome to have the book in my collection and it feels like it will be that much easier to play them now that I have this.
Finally, I have a minor surgery coming up this week on my nose. I look forward to the end result as it has caused me to have trouble breathing, feel congested for months, and it has hurt my ability to sleep. I will be taking off a couple days from work and may have extra hobby time this week or I may need to just rest and can’t paint much. I can’t really say. I have some content planned for next week regardless and I hope to return next weekend (which also happens to be my birthday) in high spirits and plenty of hobby enthusiasm!
Congratulations on completing the box of Hunter Orcs on Fell Wargs! They look great and really match with the terrain you have made. Nice to see the update, and yes, There and Back Again is a great looking book. Good luck with the surgery and I’m looking forward to more content!

Thank you, Gero! It really is a relief to have them half done. I’ll take a little break and get back to the final six in the near future I’m sure. Thank you for the kind words and I look forward to getting back to normal in the near future as well 🙂

Good luck and best wishes with your minor surgery my internet friend, and a speedy recovery. 😀
Great painting as usual and congratulations on the milestone. The book should prove a precious recourse.

Well, I hope the surgery goes (went?) well and that your recovery is swist and you’re able to keep distracted via Link’s Awakening or some other sch approriate means. 🙂
The final hunter orcs and their wargs look great, and just remember that you can always easily vary your shades of brown and green by adding a touch of one or the other (as well as black or cream) to the base flesh coats. Looking forward to the second half!

Thanks mate! I’d like to say it went well but it was honestly a hellish few days for me and my fiancee. I am finally starting to feel well enough to do some normal activities which is a huge relief. I did manage to beat Arkham Knight on PS4 which was a bit disappointing of a game overall. I have some new games to play thanks to my birthday today though so things are looking up! 😀 If I ever get my online connection issues fixed on my PS4, I’ll add you to my friends list.
Thanks for the kind words and advice on the ork skin. You’re spot on and I will need to experiment to keep them looking fresh. Looking forward to seeing what you’ve been up to hobby-wise and hopefully I will get back to painting soon. Still a bit too weak for it but maybe tomorrow I will start to feel better.

Grats on getting hold of the book, and more importantly, grats on getting the first box of War riders finished, and a nice, feral look to the orc, as well!
