Fallout Wasteland Warfare – Junk Barricade done!

  1. Nice work on the barricade! Looking forward to seeing a gamecwuth all the terrain you’ve been doing the last couple months.

This Superman movie is the first I’ve seen in awhile, I stayed away from the darker ones. I enjoyed it as it reminded me of the Christoper Reeves/Richard Donner first one with its humor and lighter mood.

For a diorama, you’ll probably find more choices if you indulge in your Roman interest, there seems to be more manufacturers and poses in that scheme. If you want to start small, look at Hail Caesar Epic Battles: Roman Generals Headquarters 🙂

    1. You know, I think you might be right. I have gotten a decent amount of stuff done since the last game that its probably time to consider having another. I always feel like I haven’t done enough because there’s always more that can be done which is probably selling myself short. Truthfully, I’m waiting on something I bought to ship (I bought it on Black Friday so hopefully it will be soon) and I need to buy some other terrain beyond that so there probably won’t be any significant progress until we get to late spring or summer so that’s all the more reason to have a game.

I’m glad to hear you liked Superman as well. I think they picked the right time for this type of movie as well. Bleak times and all that.

Its interesting that you think Roman stuff is most common. I can believe it! I’d love to get my hands on Victrix but I don’t really have a use for sprues of 30-40 Romans so that has always kept me away from them. You weren’t kidding about the Roman Generals HQ. That thing is so tiny, I don’t know how impressively I could paint it! I’m certainly not used to working on stuff that small, not even the hobbits in MESBG compare!

    2. Oh and I was going to try to use one of your recent Broken Legions pieces as an example of the kind of projects I’m interested in but Instagram wouldn’t let me surprisingly. Your work is certainly an inspiration and I wanted to make sure you know it!

      1. Even when my eyes were at their best I doubt I could’ve done that small diorama 🙂

If you look on ebay, there are usually several sellers that sell single sprues of sets, no need to buy the whole box.

  2. The barricade looks great! It’s still quite saturated by fallout standards even if it doesn’t have a bright red fridge in it I reckon!

I’d love to see you do small dioramas like that, I think even if you painted them to your gaming standard you’d get some very cool pieces out. It’s a great opportunity to explore themes you wouldn’t otherwise, with some cool world building to be done.

  3. Excellent work on the barricade Jeff, the colors you chose work well together, with the oil barrel a common color in real life is dark blue, but have seen them in orange, yellow and even cream. The wood effect looks fantastic on the rear as well.

Not seen Superman yet so can’t comment.

I think your new idea has merit, and will give you new challenges, and it may turn into the vignettes or diorama’s your looking for.

    1. I did some photo referencing (for the rust mostly) and I noticed the colors you called out being common as well. I was surprised as I expected all different colors would be used. I’m glad to hear you like how the wood turned out. I maybe overdid the mold and could have left some pieces untouched but it matches the aesthetic of the barricade nicely.

Superman is no Judge Dredd but hopefully you enjoy it when you get to see it!

My idea is somewhat a repackaged idea of what I was going to do with Warhammer but its a little leaner and less time consuming so hopefully its more practical. Who knows, I might be pestering you via email for modeling advice as a result of all this! 🙂

  4. The barricade looks fantastic, even if you don’t sound too enthusiastic! I do love stuff like that, though. Very intrigued by your idea to start painting more random stuff, as well – I’ll be keeping an eye out, of course! I try not to do that myself, so I’ll just live vicariously through your blog, instead 😃

The idea of painting up a scene reminds me of a conversation I was having with my wife the other day, how I would love to just get all my painted terrain out, get some models out, and almost set up some kind of tableau. I think I’ve seen some miniature gamers call it “dollhousing” or something. I just think it’s cool to see painted minis in a painted environment, and I’m often taking photos of games where fun-looking scenes have happened or whatever. It’s like they’re in their natural habitat, or something! Anyway, I’m not entirely sure now where this comment is going, but it sounds like a great idea! Again, I’ll be looking forward to seeing what you get up to!

    Still haven’t seen Superman though… 😕

    1. I just got burnt out on painting it before I was done. I had more fun with the front than the back which describes most minis truthfully! Thank you for the kind words on it as well! And yes, you can’t be taking up a bunch of miniatures games AND card games. Miniature games take a lot more time and effort to be able to play after all!

I intend to get some furniture for houses I’ve painted up for Fallout this year and once I start painting the furniture up, I’ll basically be dollhousing at that point haha. In terms of what you’re describing, I think its an excellent idea. There are quite a few people who do that sort of thing. If you get enough miniatures and terrain painted, you can definitely make some impressive scenes. Quite a few people in the blogging community do this type of thing and there’s quite a few people Instagram as well. Since you like Star Wars, you might enjoy checking out HVM Workbench who does some Star Wars stuff. I suppose I do too when I do battle reports which I haven’t done in a while. I’ll see what I can do to rectify that in the next few months!

Superman is still fairly new so don’t sweat it! I can barely keep up with movies so I’m impressed that I finally saw a newer movie somewhat close to its release.

      1. I’ve followed HVM workbench, they have some very impressive stuff, it must be said! I love seeing that kind of stuff, regardless of whether it’s for games I’m interested in or not; it’s just so inspiring to see it, isn’t it? So I’ll be looking out for more from you, as well 👀

      2. That’s good to hear. They’re a great follow. I wish I could do some of the cool stuff with photography that they’ve figured out. I can’t match that but I will do my best to inspire you! 😀

    1. I think its the best looking one (of a pretty bruised and battered lot)! I just hope that your actual fridge doesn’t look like that. If it does, we’ll have to start a GoFundMe 😉

  5. Goodness me you’ve smashed it out of the park with that barricade. Did you really go to all the effort of painting that wood like chipboard? I’ll admit that I’d have just done it brown and moved on with my life. But your work speaks for itself; I take my hat off to you.

    1. Cheers, mate! I’m always trying to learn new things and get better and so tackling a new “subject” or material like chipboard is par for the course 🙂 I’m just glad I got better the more I practiced it, truthfully!
